NBA Comparison: Shawn Marion Notes on Richard Jefferson
That sound you hear when Richard Jefferson is spotted on Sportscenter is the sound of jaws hitting the floor. Destined for a reoccurring role on the nightly highlight reel, Jefferson has struggled despite what scouts have seen. He was forced to convert from center in high school to small forward at Arizona and it was a tough transition. He had to rely on his formidable defensive skills to carry him even though his rim-rattling dunks brought crowds to their feet. Drew heavy praise for his defensive lockup of Jason Richardson in the Final Four contest against Michigan State. Averaged 11.3 points, 5.4 boards and 2.7 assists a game for the Wildcats.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski compared him to Grant Hill saying, "Jefferson will be the best athlete we've played all year. He's got courage. He's not afraid to mix it up, and he also wants to play defense." That was just before Duke beat Arizona to win the national championship.

Strengths of Richard Jefferson
Jefferson is a highlight film waiting to happen. He can leap through the roof, is a great passer and has developed a nice jumper as well. The best part of his game, however, is his defense. Coaches considered him a true stopper on defense.
Weaknesses of Richard Jefferson
With all his raw talent, Jefferson still needs to learn to shoot on the run and make better decisions. It's hard to find too much fault with the decision making of a youngster like Jefferson but consistency will be the buzzword for him. Needs to become a better ballhandler.
Jefferson on the Rockets?
This is the one guy that has been consistently mentioned when discussing Rockets draft prospects. He has all the qualities the Rockets covet in a small forward. Jefferson is tough, a fast learner and has serious skills on the defensive end even if you totally ignore his flashy offensive abilities and how could you? The Rockets are always surprising us come draft time, but Jefferson may be hard for them to pass on if he is available at 13.
