NBA Comparison: Kevin Garnett Notes on Kwame Brown
Mr. Basketball in Georgia, Kwame Brown is making the leap to the pros straight from high school, and some consider him, out of all the big names choosing the NBA instead of college, to be the most ready for the league right now. He is definitely considered the most athletic. Brown averaged 20.2 points, 13.3 rebounds, 5.8 blocks and over 3 assists per game this season at Glynn Academy. Scored 17 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and blocked 5 shots in the McDonald's All American game.
Strengths of Kwame Brown
"Gifted." Absolutely wowed scouts and recruiters with his athleticism. Can get out and run the break and will make the flashy plays, even if it's to pass off. Goes right by defenders. Awesome shot-blocker and rebounder. Nice jumper. Puts the ball on the floor extremely well for a big man.
Weaknesses of Kwame Brown
Has been criticized heavily for not using his size to mix it up down low, instead drifting out on the perimeter. Has been dubbed "World's Biggest Guard".
Brown on the Rockets?
Kidding, right? Kwame Brown would be a highly, highly, highly endorsed pick here at He won't come in and dominate right away, but he has the potential to be an All-Star in 3-4 years. Big and versatile enough to play 3 positions, and all three (SF, PF, C) are needs of the Rockets. Kwame Brown in pinstriped jammies next to Cuttino and Steve? Oh yes. Now if only the Rockets could get high enough to take him.
