I have to admit it's getting better, getting better all the time. (Don't say it!)
Today, the Rockets made their future look a little brighter by signing Mo Taylor. Well, their immediate future is better even if Taylor is only a one-year rental but, playing with Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley might convince him otherwise.

Tomorrow, the Comets will win their fourth WNBA championship. Did I mention that they are the only WNBA champions?

Two down, one to go.

I belive very strongly in fate. I trust my instincts. When no one believed Shandon Anderson would sign with Houston, I said he would. When the baseball referendum was losing by 20 points one week before the election in 1996, I said it would pass. When Bud Adams hauled the Oilers to Nashville, I told everyone I knew we'd have another team in less than 10 years. I told my neighbor who thought the Sparks would beat the Comets in the playoffs that never to count them out because they were money come championship time.

I'm not tooting my own horn, just being honest. When I am passionate about something, I can feel it. It is tangible to me and every bone in my body is telling me that this referendum will pass. Period. I predicted it before and now I'm telling you how I know.

What a perfect way to finish off a year that started as a stinker with the Rockets struggling mightily and no one talking to the Rockets about an arena except Louisville. What a difference a few months make.

We would be remiss if we didn't go out and make the arena happen. George Postolos said to me jokingly about landing Taylor, getting Anderson and making the deal for Francis, "Les is lucky." He was smiling from ear to ear and telling me that the players were absolutely ecstatic about signing Taylor. Imagine the next 10 years with three guys (not even 25 years old yet) growing together! And, that doesn't even take Kelvin Cato and Anderson into account!

And then there are the Comets. Talk about consistent! All they do is win championships. The WNBA may be tired of it, but no one here is. The Comets fans are amazing and deserving of every single championship. The WNBA gods must have smiled upon Houston because we couldn't have asked for better four years ago.

When they record championship number four tomorrow, that will be six championships for the Rockets and Comets in the past 8 years. Now, with the addition of Taylor and the growth of Francis and Mobley, the Rockets are on the verge of being a contender again. Everything is falling into place.

It seemed like the end of the world last year and that wasn't even taking into account Y2K! The death of Kim Perrot and the bittersweet championship for the Comets, the trials of Scottie Quitten, the referendum defeat on the same night the Rockets lost the first game of the year and saw their consecutive sellout streak come to an end, the loss of Hakeem Olajuwon to injury and the untimely end to Charles Barkley's season and career were devestating blows to our teams and us. But, rather than the end, it could be just the beginning of a new era.

They say it is always darkest before the dawn, well, here comes the sun! Steve Francis wins co-rookie of the year and has a monster first season even going so far as to say if the Rockets offered him a lifetime contract, he'd sign. Cuttino Mobley re-signs with the team, shunning offers from Toronto and Vince Carter. Rudy T. gets his shot at gold in the Olympics. The Rockets sign Mo Taylor as he falls from the sky into their laps. Now, the Comets will finish it off with championship number four.

The only piece of the puzzle left is the arena. With all that we've seen and had to endure as fans, it is time for us all to dig in for the last two months of the campaign, get registered to vote and vote to get this thing passed so we can all have a place to live through the highs and lows that come with being a sports fan. Fortunately for us, we have the Rockets and Comets. We are the lucky one's. We get two of the best franchises in all of sports instead of having to deal with people like Taylor's former boss in LA LA land.

First Taylor and next the Comets. It's time to complete the three-point play for our teams and ourselves. It's time for a new day. It's time to vote YES!
