LaMarcus Aldridge
6-11, 237 lb sophomore PF/C out of Texas

At nearly 7-feet tall and 240 pounds with long arms and a nice touch around the basket, LaMarcus Aldridge is one of the draft's top prospects and a likely selection at #1 overall. Aldridge, who originally declared for the draft out of high school in 2004 before pulling out, averaged 15 points, 9 boards and 2 blocks a night as a sophomore with the Longhorns, helping lead Texas to the Elite Eight. Aldridge had 16 double-doubles and a team-high 73 blocks as a sophomore, being voted in by the coaches as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. |
His height, length and wingspan make him the ideal four, or possibly five, in the pros. Aldridge is not clumsy and is fairly polished offensively -- he is a very good athlete with good fundamentals and a soft touch on his shot, which he's effective from out to about 14 feet. Very good shot blocker and rebounder, particularly on the offensive glass. Runs the floor very well for a man his size. |
While Aldridge has the ideal frame for the pros, he will have to bulk up to succeed at the highest level -- he's likely to get pushed around early. Like a Tim Duncan, he's very mild mannered and doesn't play with tremendous passion. Has disappeared in many games, scoring 5 points or less in 6 of UT's games as a sophomore. |
He's from Texas and he played at Texas - it sure would be nice to keep him in Texas. Aldridge would provide a skilled big to play alongside Yao Ming and the duo could form a strong core in the paint from which Houston could build. But if the Rockets want him, they will have to move up -- there's little to no chance that Aldridge won't go Top 4. |
