According to the Houston Chronicle, Dan Langhi has not been added to the Rockets summer league squad, signaling the end of his Rocket career.
The writing was very clear on the wall for the 6-foot-10 forward after the Rockets drafted Bostjan Nachbar. Terence Morris isn't going anywhere since he's under contract and same goes for Glen Rice. The Rockets weren't going to carry 4 small forwards.
As reported earlier, Nachbar will be on the summer league squad as will Tito Maddox, who the Rockets took in the second round. Joining them will be Morris, Jason Collier, Oscar Torres, Eddie Griffin, Tierre Brown and Kyle Hill, a second round pick who the Rockets acquired from the Mavericks last season in the Glen Rice deal. Hill has been playing ball in Europe.
Hill averaged 12.2 points, hitting 69-179 (38%) on threes, and 2.8 boards for ASVEL Villeurbanne in the French leagues last season.
The Indianapolis Star reports this morning that former Indiana guard Dane Fife will travel to California to participate in the Rockets three-day minicamp before the summer league there, and if he survives, hopes to get a shot with the Rockets summer league squad.
Fife, a 6-foot-4 guard, is a defensive specialist. He was co-Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year last season and will compete with Torres for a backup guard position.
"It just came down to the Rockets because they have an open spot at the backup (shooting) guard and that's my position," Fife said.
Other players on the summer league roster include 6-foot-10 center Venson Hamilton, 6-foot-5 forward Pete Mickael out of Cincinnati, 6-foot-10 forward Fred Jonzen out of Oklahoma State and 6-foot-11 center Ike Nwankwo out of Long Beach State. Ike impressed the Rockets' brass last season and was invited to training camp before being waived just before the season.
The Chronicle also reports that Glen Rice and Maurice Taylor, both coming off big injuries last year, could join the squad as well.
