The Rockets announced on Wednesday that they have waived guard/forward Pete Mickeal.
Mickeal was a surprise addition to the Rockets this season. Houston waived both Tierre Brown and Oscar Torres, both players who were on the team in 2001-2002, to keep Mickeal and Juaquin Hawkins.
But Mickeal was injured early on, placed on the IR and never really left it ... never figuring much in to the plans either. He didn't play a single minute this season.
So why waive him now? The Rockets really had to. The 10th was the deadline for non-guaranteed contracts to be extended for the rest of the season, and by keeping him on board they would have to fork out the dough to keep him on the IR.
