One day after being introduced at a press conference as the new Rockets coach, Jeff Van Gundy watched some workouts for his new squad Thursday.
Oklahoma's Hollis Price and Eastern Illinois' Henry Domercant may not be replacements for Cuttino Mobley and Steve Francis, but the guards did run through drills for Rockets staff at WestSide.
Many in Texas know about Price. The 6-foot-1, 170 pound point guard was a big factor in the Sooners' successful season, averaging 19.5 ppg on 44.4% shooting from long range and 93.4% from the free throw line.
Domercant, a 6-foot-4, 200 pound shooting guard, averaged 27.9 points per game last season as a senior. He's a terrific shooter, hitting roughly 43% from long range.
Van Gundy was present for only a part of the workout, but did spend time at WestSide. He talked with both Moochie Norris and Terence Morris as well as Kings backup guard and local product Damon Jones.
Van Gundy was also spotted talking to former Rocket and ClutchCity.net icon Mario Elie, who runs the scrimmages at Westside. Elie has been very open in lobbying for an assistant coach position on Van Gundy's staff.
