Perhaps sending a message to Eddie Griffin Tuesday, the Rockets signed forward Scott Padgett to complete their roster heading in to Thursday's opener.
The 6-foot-9, 240 pound forward out of Kentucky spent the last 4 seasons in Utah, averaging 4.9 points and 3 boards in 13.7 minutes of play over his career.
Padgett can shoot. He's a 37.5% three-point shooter over his career, though 2002-2003 saw his percentages slip quite a bit (33.8%).
He's most known for his role on Kentucky's NCAA title-winning team of 1998. Padgett was drafted by the Jazz in the first round in 1999 (#28), six picks after the Rockets took Kenny Thomas that season.
Padgett started the season in Blazer camp, losing a roster spot battle in Portland to former Rocket Tracy Murray. Said Padgett a couple of weeks ago, "I'm a pretty confident guy. I feel like this is where I'm going to be, and until somebody tells me otherwise, I'm a Blazer."
They've told him otherwise, and now he's a Rocket.
