Despite the fact that former Rocket Eddie Griffin went from untouchable to untradeable in a matter of weeks, the 6-foot-10 recently released forward is drawing heavy interest from several teams willing to look past his big problems.
According to the New York Post, both the New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets are vying to pick Eddie up for the minimum for the remainder of this season, and the Philadelphia 76ers also are trying to lure him to his hometown of Philly, where ironically he would back up another ex-Rocket, Kenny Thomas.
However, the ultimate slap to the face of Rockets GM Carroll Dawson would be New Jersey. The Nets received three Rocket first-round draft picks (one of which was used to select Richard Jefferson) on draft day 2001 in exchange for Eddie. The Nets are faced with a big financial decision on whether or not to re-up forward Kenyon Martin this offseason.
No one doubts that the Knicks have interest because, quite frankly, they're hideous. New president Isiah Thomas is looking to make big changes and is reportedly working on buying out Clarence Weatherspoon's contract.
As for the Sixers, team president/GM Billy King did say last week that the team would check out Griffin, but that it was par for the course.
"We do that with everybody, whenever anybody gets waived," King told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
