Two independent sources confirmed to ClutchFans on Thursday that Jeff Hagedorn, Rockets halftime analyst and the voice of the WNBA's Comets, has been let go by the team.
Hagedorn, who is working his seventh season as the "Voice of the Comets", will no longer be with the Rockets organization after the final Comets game on August 27th.
The driving force behind this move and others is that Fox Sports Southwest is now in complete control of the Rockets broadcast and their plan is to use their own people for the Rockets halftime show.
The move on Hagedorn was surprising given that many considered him to be the heir apparent to Rockets radio voice Gene Peterson, but Geno was recently signed to another year, locking him in to two more seasons.
As for who will be the voice of the Comets, good question. There have been rumors floating around that this could be the Comets' last year in Houston. One of the reasons supposedly is that Les Alexander is losing money on the venture and wants to focus on the Rockets, but that is just talk at this point.
As for the Rockets broadcast team, institution Bill Worrell is cemented in to the play-by-play position. However, a full-time Calvin Murphy reunion is not expected.
Murphy, who was accused of sexual assault by his children early last year but was later cleared of all charges, ended up losing his color analyst position with the team during the ordeal. Comets coach Van Chancellor took over the position.
The wacky Murphy is very popular with the fans, but word is he will not be asked back other than the possibility as a potential fill-in for a few games.
