The mystery of the 16th roster spot was solved on Thursday.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets have signed John Lucas III, the son of former Rocket point guard John Lucas.

Lucas played two years at Baylor and transferred to Oklahoma State after the turmoil surrounding the murder of Patrick Dennehy. He upped his game as a junior there, then as a senior he averaged 17.7 points on over 45% shooting to go with 4.1 assists.

Most recently, Lucas was averaging 15.1 points on 52.8% shooting to go with 3 dimes for the Tulsa 66ers of the NBDL. Last Thursday, Lucas scored 36 points on 15-23 shooting.

Interestingly, this is the second former Rocket's son on the current roster. Jon Barry's father, Rick Barry, played for the Rocks for two seasons from 1978 to 1980.

Current NBA players Brent Barry (San Antonio), Mike Dunleavy Jr. (Golden State) and Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles) could round out a starting five for the sons of former Rockets.
