As expected, Brandon Roy worked out in Houston on Saturday and he spoke with a local Fox station after his session with the Rockets.
The senior Washington guard explained why he was coming to Houston -- a team with the 8th pick -- when he was projected to go in the top 6 picks.
"[My agent] told me that the Rockets are trying to move up, that they're trying to get some trades to happen so they want you to come in and do a workout for them," said Roy. "I said yeah it's great -- I think it's a great team and a great fit so I was willing to come down here and do it."
Roy, who measured out at just over 6-foot-6 in shoes and showed an over 40-inch vertical leap at the combine, said he felt Houston would be a great fit for him.
"I think Houston is a great team to play for, to play with Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming," said Roy. "I mean it would just give me a chance to come in and really learn the game before I just get thrown in to the deep water. I think it would be great for me."
Donning a New York Yankees cap, Roy said he pulled his hamstring earlier in the week, but it did not keep him from performing at the Toyota Center.
"They did a great job of loosening me up, putting me through some shooting drills and we just had a chance to talk, do some interviews and things like that. I think all in all it was a good experience," said Roy. "I was able to show them a little bit, not as much as I liked but we talked, they've watched alot of film, they were at alot of my games. This was more just to get a chance to talk to me and I got to sit down with the general manager, I got a chance to meet coach Van Gundy. It was just good, it was good all around."
