The Rockets took one of the best shooters in the draft in the second round Wednesday, selecting Marquette forward Steve Novak with the 32nd pick.
Novak reminds you of a Scott Padgett or Matt Bullard - a big man who doesn't really play inside, but has an amazing stroke. His shooting skills are absolutely phenomenal -- he averaged 17.5 points on 47.7% shooting from the floor and an incredible 46.7% from long range as a senior. From the free throw line he hit 97.4%. He also grabbed 5.9 boards.
After their hideous move in the first round (my thoughts are on the way), this looked like a solid pick to me for a second rounder. Anything outside of shooting might be a bonus from Novak, but his shooting efficiency is brilliant and off the bench he could be a real asset hanging outside the arc taking feeds from Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady.
