Daryl Morey was on 1560 the Game with John Granato this morning, and the Houston Rockets general manager said free agent forward Antonio McDyess won't be coming to the Rockets.
"His agent is inventing teams interested. He's got like 40 NBA teams interested," said Morey. "I think he's going back to Detroit unless someone sends a lot of money his way. It's almost a moot question. We need to create room to even bring a minimum player back, so McDyess is not coming to the Rockets."
Eh, it was pretty much a long shot anyhow. Morey did address the Dikembe Mutombo question though.
"It's someone we think we could use as insurance, especially down the stretch in the playoffs," said Morey. "He's not someone, unless we take an injury, we do think would play. We miss Deke. If we create room, I think it's pretty likely that he'll be the highest need at that point. We continue to talk to him."
It's a little surprising to hear Morey say Deke wouldn't play barring injury -- I think he'd be a nice reserve on nights when Yao goes into "Flower Mode".
Morey also talked about Tracy McGrady, the fight in Phoenix and the struggles on offense. You can listen to the entire interview here:
