Done: Francis a Rocket
In what is now officially the largest trade in NBA history, the Rockets, Vancouver Grizzlies and Orlando Magic completed an 11-player, 2-draft pick trade. The Rockets have sent Othella Harrington, Michael Dickerson, Brent Price, Antoine Carr, a first round pick in the year 2000 and cash to Vancouver in exchange for prize rookie point guard Steve Francis, Tony Massenburg, Lee Mayberry, Michael Smith, Makhtar Ndiaye and ex-Rocket Rodrick Rhodes. The Rockets in turn shipped Rhodes (again), Michael Smith, Ndiaye and Mayberry to Orlando for Don MacLean and a future first round draft pick from the Magic (info on pick is not yet disclosed). The Magic have several draft picks over the next few years so we await word on which pick this might be. As for Rhodes, this is the second time in 5-6 months the Rockets have shipped off Rodrick, and we feared this might be the case. Tomjanovich wasn't much of a Rodrick fan when he was shipped in March so we didn't see why Rudy would want him back. Check out the full Clutch City Online report on the deal which includes links to articles on the deal. The Rockets gave up a lot to get Francis, especially in Harrington and Dickerson, but Francis' talent and potential is unquestioned. We asked you what you thought of the trade and of the nearly 700 that voted, over 76%, more than 3 to 1, were in favor of the deal.
