I'll always remind everyone to take draft notes at this stage of the game with a grain of salt, because different players become buzz words at different times. Right now, the player getting the most buzz from the Rockets is Yao Ming, the 7'6" future Knick from China. Though comparisons range from an athletic Shawn Bradley (which is like saying a "skinny Thomas Hamilton" or a "smart Rodrick Rhodes") to Arvydas Sabonis, one thing is sure -- Ming is tearing up the Chinese leagues (in a recent game he hit all 21 of his shot attempts for 49 points, 17 boards, 6 blocks and 3 steals). The Rockets also are eyeing Caron Butler, a 6'7" sophomore small forward out of UCONN who is a beast on both sides of the floor. Butler averaged just over 20 points, 7.6 boards and 2.2 steals last season, and was impressive in leading Connecticut to the Elite Eight. Also important to the Rockets (because it benefits the team each time this draft gets deeper, especially when top players enter) is Kansas power forward Drew Gooden's pending announcement this Friday - he will announce if he is staying at Kansas for his senior season or declaring for the draft. As it stands right now, Gooden would be a lottery pick and probably crack the top 5 or 6 picks.
