The Rockets, set with a deep roster and two established point guards, did not look to be the ideal location for an undrafted rookie one hoping to make the NBA, but Smith believed.
“I know other people were looking at me like I was crazy,” said the Wake Forest product. “You know what, I just felt like it was a good fit here. Coach Adelman is a heck of a coach and our coaching staff, from top to bottom, is really good.”
On Monday he learned that he made the final roster spot… by not being notified.
“I just came into practice,” said Smith with a laugh. “I got tape like a regular day and the guys were like ‘Congratulations, you made it past the first wave’. I didn’t know what was going on. That’s how I got the news — I didn’t get any news.”
